Chanel's New Twist - Paris's star couturière translated her avant-garde fashion sense into a famously fragrant form after introducing the world to Chanel No. 5, in 1921. Nearly half a century after launching that incredible scent, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, at age 87, dared to design what became the final addition to her redolent repertoire -- Chanel No. 19, named for her birthday, August 19. This month, Chanel unveils its re-interpretation of No. 19, which was created by Jacques Polge, the house's renowed "nose." While retaining the original's powdery iris and crisp, green notes, No. 19 Poudré has subtle supplements of mandarin orange, jasmine absolute, white musk, and tonka bean. This modern take on Chanel's parting perfume re-awakens the joie de vivre of the woman who wore it best. (chanel.com)

Warm Iris - There is a trend toward skin fragrances right now -- things that are soothing and comfortable. Chanel No. 19 Poudré is a good example of that. It's a soft, musky iris with a bit of vanilla, and it feels cozy and initimate. It's like a current version of Guerlain's Après L'Ondée, which is one of the great fragrance masterpieces.

Scents of Style - Modern Like Chanel: This medley of iris, mandarin, and jasmine complements your most major outfits. Think bold, unexpected shaoes in sophisticated black. Try: Chanel No. 19 Poudre Eau de Parfum, $80 for 1.7 oz., chanel.com.

Crisp Creation - So green, it could smell grasslike if not for the delicate scent of powdery iris. Chanel No. 19 Poudre eau de parfum, $115/3.4 oz.; at Saks Fifth Avenue.
