EAU CAPITALE Eau de Parfum
What scent perfectly epitomizes Paris?
For diptyque, only chypre, a lively fragrance with its roots deep in one of the first and most famous perfumeries in the world, can fully embody the essence of the city with a thousand faces. An excess of lush roses precedes the freshness of bergamot notes, accented by bright pink berries. Its undertone is patchouli, bringing together a fragrance at once defiant and free.
Eau Capitale is artfully decorated with undulating calligraphy, the Eiffel Tower, emblematic roses, a proud peacock fanning its feathers, and volutes intertwined. To design Eau Capitale, diptyque and Pierre Marie drew their inspiration from the Parisian architecture and the distinct style of Art Nouveau.
Raw Materials: Rose, Bergamot, Patchouli
Olfactory Accident: Pink peppercorns
Did you know? Chypre is representative of a class of fragrance historically considered to be part of one of the world's first perfumeries in ancient Cyprus. Francois Coty is credited to have re-popularized the scent with his popular 'Chypre' perfume created in 1917."

Diptyque Eau Capitale - Fragrance Editorials
Diptyque Eau Capitale
Beauty: The Paris Accord - Diptyque honors its French roots.
Coveted fragrance brand Diptyque pays tribute to its hometown.
Paris is always a good idea - especially when it's the inspiration for a new fragrance. Diptyque's first chypre scent makes its debut this month.
"Founded in 1961, Diptyque began as a single Paris textile shop, which launched an ancillary line of three scented candles...in 1963...Next came L'Eau, a before-its-time genderless oriental eau de toilette that debuted in 1968 and catapulted the brand into a cult-obsession status symbol. ...Each of the fragrances (now 32 in total) captures a specific moment in time - creating a diary entry in the form of a scent - and it embellished with a signature Art Nouveau-inspired label that elevates the product into a vanity-worthy object d'art.
"At Diptyque's Paris office... the brand recently revealed its newest olfactory memory: Eau Capitale... The blend of rose, bergamot, and pathouli is both warm and sophisticated. It's also the first chypre in the Diptyque family, and the first fragrance the brand has created to honor the city of its birth. ...And like the rest of Diptyque's fragrances, it has a suprise "olfactory accident" note: pink peppercorn.
"It's like when you open a bottle of Champagne and have the bubbles," says Olivier Pescheux, a perfumer and the nose behind Eau Capitale. "Pink peppercorn is sparkling. It gives energy to the fragrance, like when you drink a glass of Champagne."
