Amouage Interlude Black Iris - new fragrance details

Interlude Black Iris Man Eau de Parfum
Interlude Black Iris is the house of Amouage's latest introspective creation for men. The fragrance evokes an air of disorder while maintaining a sense of balance and tranquility through the use of Orris, Frankincense and Myrrh. An orchestrated blend of technical skill and creative integrity, the fragrance takes on moment in time for self-reflection and personal discovery to compose internal harmony from external chaos.

Fragrance Description
Interlude Black Iris Man is a spicy, woody Eau de Parfum created by perfumer Pierre Negrin at a concentration of 25% of fragrance oil. Harmony resonates in the heart of Interlude Black Iris Man. Zesty Bergamot, Rosemary and Violet Leaves conjure perpetuating intervals of conflict which are countered by notes of Amber, Frankincense, Cistus and Myrrh. A layer of Orris Absolute and Vanilla smoothens the heart of the composition. Finally, notes of leather, Agarwood Smoke, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Cedarwood in the base add lasting depth and texture.

Difference with Interlude Man Eau de Parfum
Crafted as an overpainting, Interlude Black Iris uses a refined palette to smoothen the facets of the original creation. A complex interplay of dark stoic serenity and buried vibrant power bursting upwards, into the light. In comparision with its 2012 predecessor, Interlude Black Iris presents several differences. Oregano and Rosemary notes have been toned down resulting in an opening that feels slightly more sparkling and wet, with the addition of Violet Leaves notes. Additionally, Orris adds an extra layer of buttery smoothness to the heart of the fragrance, complementing the vanilla. Finally, the overrall woodiness comes out faster in the composition. Both fragrance creations are Eaux de Parfum, created by perfumer Pierre Negrin at a concentration of 35% of fragrance oil.

Bottle and Packaging
Amouage's man signature glass crystal bottle is introduced in a rich and mesmerizing midnight blue and black hue with gun metal detailing, accentuated with a sapphire blue Swarovski crystal. A vibrant palette of blue nuances enriches the packaging in an abstract and conceptual representation of orderly chaos.

References and Sources of Inspiration
Overpainting
Interlude Black Iris Man was approached as an overpainting of the original fragrance creation. Interlude Man, the underpainting, gives a context in which the paint-strokes of Orris and other ingredients become more resonant and powerful. The creative intention was to reveal different facets of Interlude Man.

Black Iris (Georgia O'Keeffe, 1926)
O'Keeffe's large close-up painting of an iris flower was intended to "make even busy New Yorkers take time to see what I see in flowers" who often didn't take the time to engage with nature as she did. This detail of a black iris uses a subtle colour palette to explore the intricacies of the flower petals and their contrasting tones.
