Find Your Perfect Scent
Perfume experts, designers, and fashion-savvy women reveal the secrets to discovering the fragrances that suit your style.

Flirty & Feminine
If you're the flirty and feminine type who favors sheer, playful dresses, there's a good chance that you'll be attracted to fresh, fruity florals with notes of apple, grapefruit, and raspberry. Model Anais Pouliot's favorite spritz is the sparkling Yves Saint Laurent In Love Again, which she wears with Dolce & Gabbana dresses, "when I need to look really chic." For a new fall option, try DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense, with apple, cucumber, and grapefruit, or Jo Malone's sweet-smelling Blackberry & Bay.

Flirty and Feminine Perfumes
- Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme, $98, Bloomingdale's
- Chanel Coco Noir, $98, Chanel
- Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay, $60, Jo Malone

Worldly Scents
Intrepid fragrance explorer Courtney Dunlop uncovers informs history of how culture informs what smells good to us. ... [A]s you move across southern Europe, Mediterranean freshness is de rigueur. Citrus and neroli are typical of the reqion, which has historically served as a melting pot -- the early days of Eastern spice traders and exotic travelers left a permanent mark on the fragrance culture. Take an island known for its fragrance orange blossom fields: As Sicily was invaded by the Romans and Arabs, cultures collided and their tastes intertwined over time, explains Sumit Bhasin, global leader of innovation for P&G Prestige, who helped create Dolce & Gabbana's latest scent, Pour Femme, a neroli-and-sandalwood-infused concoction that embodies the sweet and spicy notes of the area.

Ready to Wear
There's more to a designer fragrance than scent alone. Here, the recipes for five of the season's hottest house blends.

Pour Femme by Dolce & Gabbana
Inhale la dolce vita. With Pour Femme, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana pay hommage, they say, to Sicily's "architecture, food, and flowers" as well as to quintessential Italian seductresses such as Claudia Cardinale, Sophia Loren, and Monica Vitti. A tangy freen mandarin top note offsets a jasmine and orange blossom heart, while vanilla and marshmallow in the dry-down evoke the "sugary sweet" smell of dessert-course cassata. Red velvet, common to palazzo interiors, inspired the cap, and the hue of the juice minics ultrapale pink roses.

A Slice of Sicily
Like Pintrest users, fashion designers create mood boards: collections of images that represent inspiration for their latest endeavors. Unlike Pintrest users, they usually keep these boards private. But here, Domenico Dolce (who is from a village in Sicily) and Stefano Gabbana give an inside look at what inspired their new scent, Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme, a bottled love letter to Italian women, open-air markets, and orange blossom. The designers expressed their appreciation of Byzantine style in the bottle's crimson-and-gold top. Orange flower represents eternal love and is always present at traditional Italian weddings. The sweet zing of mandarin and raspberry is a nod to Sicily's open-air markets. The neroli mimics the scent of the breeze in Conca d'Oro, a valley that was planted with citrus trees. There are so many churches--like the chapel in the Palazzo dei Normanni--on the island that on Sunday afternoons, the streets smell of incense.
