Hair Products for Natural Curls That Won’t Break the Budget

Born with a head of blonde curls, I have spent way too much time and way too much money trying to find hair care products to tame my coils.  Most products leave my hair Bozo-the-Clown frizzy or weighed down and drab.   Since my hair is fairly long, the shampoos and conditioners sold at the salon leave too much buildup and are too pricey.  So, I wanted to share a post on my hair care “finds” for other long hair curly-cues looking for tips.

Shampoo – Pantene Beautiful Lengths Shampoo
Hair breakage is a problem for those with long hair, but even more of an issue for anyone with naturally curly hair.  The natural oils don’t run down our wavy hair strands easily and our hair tends to suffer from more frizz, split ends and breakage because of this.   Pantene’s new Beautiful Lengths shampoo protects from all three issues.  Their moisture control science helps protect against damage and the silicone in the product tames frizz and detangles to prevent split ends.  This shampoo also has surfactants that prevent the nasty build up of residue other products leave behind… and it smells fantastic!

Conditioner – Pantene Nature Fusion Moisture Balance Conditioner
Moisturizing is the key to soft curly hair.  Pantene’s Moisture Balance conditioner hydrates your stands and locks in moisture to tame the frizz.  Their Nature Fusion blend of cassis, aloe vera, calendula, and ginger not only smell great, but it also works to insulate your waves to protect against damage and hair breakage.

HOT HAIR TIP:  To further prevent excess hair care product buildup, once a week, use a different shampoo and conditioner to give you hair a break from your usual brand.  No need for any harsh chemical stripper or hot oil treatment, just a simple 1-day break will strip any overload of product gunk.

1-Day Retreat from Your Usual Brand
I recommend Suave Professionals Sleek shampoo and conditioner for dry and damaged hair,  Color Care for color treated locks, or Suave Naturals Daily Clarifying for deep cleaning without stripping the moisture.

Styling Products – Pantene Classic Total Control Gel
Hair styling products for naturally curly hair tend to overload and weigh down the curls, or dry it out and make hair frizzy.  Most people think styling mouse is used on curly hair, but to keep your curls bouncy not frizzy and shiny rather than dull, hair gel is a much better option.  The trick is to use a small amount, think dime-size (yes, even for long hair).  Place a small amount in your palm, and lather it with a small amount of water to fully distribute the product throughout your mane of waves.  I like Pantene Classic Total Control Gel, it’s not sticky and it locks out frizz while leaving my tresses shiny and bouncy.

Hairspray – Pantene Classic Touchable Flexible Hold Hairspray
Curls need to move and bounce to be pretty.  You want your hairspray to hold the style, tame the frizz, and reflect a nice shine.  Pantene’s Flexible Hold hairspray does just that, while not adding to the buildup of hair product goo that dries out your hair.

I’m a little partial to Pantene, but that’s because it’s a great series of products for curly heads like me…and they smell great too!  Try it for yourself and let me know what you think.  If you have other product suggestions, I’d love to hear your comments and give them a try.  No salon brands please…I like to spend my “extra” cash on perfume!
