Warm Body - Burberry gave the trench coat its sex appeal, and now it's doing the same for the English rose with its newest fragrance, Body. "Fashion and fragrance are inextricably linked -- they both reflect your attitude, spirit, and character," says Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer. "I love it when you feel people's character through what that wear." Here, Bailey dissects his first scent. The Bottle: "I refer to Burberry as this multifaceted diamond, and I wanted that to be reflected in the packaging. The bottle is shaped like a crystal -- I like the idea that it can stand up and lie down." The Rose-Gold Lid: "Rose gold is warm and works with the outer packaging's nude shades." The Notes: "It is fresh and floral at first, with English rose and iris. But it gets sexier and muskier the longer it is one your skin, as the sandalwood and amber come through." The Feeling: "The trench is a diverse piece, and I wanted our signature fragrance to be the same. Like a trench coat, it can make you feel very sexy and confident, or protected if you're feeling vulnerable." The Application: "A woman should wear fragrance whenever she feels the sexiest. For some, that's on their shoulders and neck, while for others, it may be their belly or hair." The Face: Transformers: Dark of the Moon star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is the spokeswoman. Bailey says, "People know Rosie as this strong woman, but she's also very delicate."

Celebrating a decade at the creative helm of Burberry, Christopher Bailey unveils the perfume counterpoint to the iconic trench. For Christopher Bailey, creating a fragrance goes beyond fashioning something that just smells good. "No matter what you're designing, you always have to have the same three elements," he explains. "It needs to touch you on an emotional level--you know, sing to you; it has to look beautiful; and it has to be functional." He would know: In addition to directing the design of 60 clothing and accessories collections (Burberry Prorsum, Sport, and Brit, to name a few), Bailey oversees the brand's architecture (the stores, the spectacular-yet-understated London HQ) and progressive digital concepts. "I'm lucky that I can play with all the worlds that excite me," he adds. Here, Bailey gives us a glimpse of what inspired him--for his new scent and beyond.
The Perfume - "With Burberry Body [Eau de Parfum Intense, $115], I wated to develop a signature scent that epitomizes the brand. It's like the trenchcoat. It represents the core of everything we do, the Britishness--when the historic and classic clash with the rebellious and artistic."
The Bottle - "It's a jewellike piece of glass. I wanted it to be nude and feel like the body--kind of like it's wrapped in a trenchcoat. The box even has a sueded finish."
Smells Like... - "It's sexy, smoky, sultry through notes like sandalwood, musk, and amber. It's also delicate and feminine--thing English rose and iris."
The Body - "Rosie Huntington-Whiteley epitomizes Body in many respects. She's a sexy, strong, confident woman, but when you get to know her, there's this really soft, girly, fun side that's disarming. She's so comfortable with who she is."
Listening to Now... - "Misty Miller, Life in Film; I just did something on Burberry Acoustic with Keane in Beijing. The Feeling will be the soundtrack to the Body campaign. All the music I use is British."
Luxury is... - "Inclusivity. I hate the word exclusive. I don't find it defines modern or luxury or special. I would much rather people feel comfortable and invited."
