  • The Best Home Fragrances - Fall's warmest scents~ Space Makers - Fancy home scents are taking off. Sales soared 56 percent last year. Smell for yourself.
Cire Trudon Ex-Voto in Empire - The original sculpture is in the Louvre. For $65, this functional replica can grace your home.
Ted Baker Bergamot & Cassis Reed Diffuser - A soft pink decanter to give your bathroom the scent of a lush Mediterranean grove, well into wintertime.
Louis Vuitton Dehors Il Neige Candle - Louis Vuitton's first-ever candles feature luxe leather handlers, colorful wicks, and LV-emblazoned caps because of course they do. (This one smells of pine needles and raspberries.)
Phlur Howl Candle - Smoky tobacco and fresh vetiver in a spherical ceramic votive turns and tables into design-scapes.~ Warming Trend - Temper cooler temperatures with the sultriness of these new scents.
    Gucci Bloom Nettare di Fiori
The sexy, flowery powderiness of the original, just a notch more intense. Osmanthus and rose up the petal quotient, and ginger adds extra spice.
Caroline Herrera Good Girl Collector Edition Velvet Fatale
A warm, softly sugary mix of cacao, tuberose, and jasmine. Quite possibly the best-smelling shoe ever.
    Narciso Eau de Parfum Rouge
Musky, amber-y, and cedar-y, with a bit of rose and vetiver to break up the headiness. In short, a love letter to fancy-yet-bohemian women everywhere.
    Givenchy L'Interdit
It's name is French for prohibited or forbidden. Like most verboten things, it's also temptingly inviting (lightly floral and sensually musky).

  • Making Scents - Out of Thin Air. How perfumer Mathilde Laurent crafted the scent of a diamond. How do you bottle the scent of something that has no smell? Very-big-deal perfumer Mathilde Laurent gave us a master class. (On creating Cartier Carat eau de parfum.)
~ Abstract Expressionism - This is how to bring scent to time, space, emotion...even a rock.
    Cartier Carat
Always coveted a Cartier stone? Laurent's floral scent is meant to be accessible. "It's joyful, a way to make the diamond more familiar."
    Gucci Guilty
This indulgent amber-and-gardenia mix is the scent of defiance as conceived by perfumer Aurelien Guichard in 2010 - and reportedly inspired in part by Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb's 1980 single of the same name.
    Calvin Klein Eternity
When you're in love, limitless time is the smell of mandarin, lily, and sultry sandalwood, according to perfumer Sophia Grojsman in 1988.
Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle Dawn
Perfumer Carlos Benaim honors the moment of introspection before day begins with a meditative combination of pink pepper, Turkish rose, and oud.~ The Pursuit of Happiness - Two uplifting takes on what contentment smells like.
    Dior Joy
Francois Demachy, the perfumer behind Dior's newest fragrance, associates joy with light. And not just any light: the warm, caressing light you often see in the play of shadows in early 20th-century photographs. The result is a warm musk with smooth sandalwood and a bouquet of rose - the sort of scent that begs to be sniffed near the curve of a neck. "Creating a perfume is a question of emotion," says Demachy. "It's not intellectual at all."
    Clinique Happy
Over two decades ago, perfumers Jean-Claude Delville and Rodrigo Flores-Roux were given a directive: Come up with a scent different from anything else on the market. They formulated an ode to citrus that Delville has described in interviews as feeling "happy...like catching the sun in a bottle." Happy debuted in 1997; 21 years later, two bottles are being sold every minute in the U.S.

  • Beauty Diary - Just the Essentials
They're the darlings of the wellness movement, but can essential oils really perk you up, calm you down, and even you out? Cotton Codinha goes oil-rich (and drug-free) to find out. (Codinha, Cotton. "Beauty Diary." Allure Oct. 2018: 68-73)
  • The Best Splurges: Best of Beauty - The only thing conspicuous about this consumption? Impossibly shiny hair, high-and-mighty cheekbones, and lashes of fantastic length.
    ~ BODY
Louis Vuitton Le Jour Se Leve ($240)
We've lost count on all the fragrances we've tested over the years (it's somewhere between 250 and infinity). But we'll never forget the moment we first experienced this revelatory scent. Glowing with all the floral, shining aspects of mandarin, it's an extravagant burst of sunlight.
Jo Malone London Geranium & Walnut Body Scrub ($55)
We're not exactly the linger-in-the-shower type (we're more of the hurry-and-rinse-and-got-on-with-the-day type). But this cocktail of walnut shells and sunflower oil buffs away roughness - and our impatience.
Acqua di Parma Spray Body Lotion ($50)
Longing for an Italian getaway? Here it is, in a bottle. An airy cloud of skin-smoothing almond oil and grape seed is infused with one of five different transporting scents. The fig-and-lemon Fico di Amalfi is particularly bellisimo.

Best of Beauty ~ SCENT
These superstars transformed our skin, exalted our hair, brightened our eyes, and exceeded our (very high) expectation. We wanted you to be the first to know.

FLORAL - Ralph Lauren Woman
Perfumer Anne Flippo is the woman behind Women by Ralph Lauren. And...she gets us. With a soft bed of tuberose at the center, hazelnut underneath, and a bright pear note up top, the scent is full of dimension and countours.

CITRUS - Eau de Givenchy
Lots of citrus fragrances try to capture the essence of an orange. But Givenchy Eau de Givenchy has captured the elusive essence of an entire grove. Lemon and mandarin convey pure sunlight; bitter almond and musk are the stark white clouds in a low-hanging sky.

GREEN - Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano X Olivo
Inspired by olive trees, Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano X Olivo is as woodsy as it is green. The base has the earthy quality of warm roots, and the fresh, silvery olive accord feels vibrant and alive.

FRUITY - Versace Dylan Blue
The bottle looks as though a Medici could have designed it (one who dabbled in the dark arts), but Versace Dylan Blue is a sheer and uplifting potion. Apple and clover create a fresh impression; jasmine and musk add depth.

SPICY - Etat Libre d'Orange Une Amourette Roland Mouret
Une Amourette Roland Mouret Etat Libra d'Orange isn't spicy in an obvious, in-your-face way. The name translates to "a fling," and the warm, sensual mix of neroli, cardamom, pink peppercorn, and vailla is indeed sexy without taking itself too seriously.

OUD - Prada Miracle of the Rose
With dark leather, smoky tobacco, and full-bodied rose, Prada Miracle of the Rose balances (and enhances) the sometimes carnal, sometimes spiritual aspects of oud.

CLASSIC - Chloe Eau de Parfum
It's been 10 years since Chloe eau de parfum first created a stir in the shared world of fashion and fragrance. Clean and powdery, the scent transforms the rose at its core into a tailored object, giving it the flounce of a sleeve, the structure of a blouse.

MEN'S - Chanel Bleu de Chanel
One tester couldn't wait to go home so she could spray Bleu de Chanel on her husband's neck. Grapefruit zest brightens the smooth, opaque layers of cedar and patchouli. The rich concentration is so refined, we love it on significant others - and total strangers.

HAIR FRAGRANCE - Gucci Bloom
Gucci Bloom Hair Mist transforms the headiest white flowers (tuberose and jasmine) into an airy, nimbus-like cloud that hangs over your head in the best possible way.

HOME FRAGRANCE
Lafco Sea & Dune Candle is no bungalow cliche. With seagrass, amber, and lotus, it conjures warm sand and the smell of approaching rain. For flame-free fragrance, we can't get enough of the effortless, zero-maintenance Nest Fragrance Liquidless Diffuser in Bamboo. Placed in a chic metal base, the oil-infused sticks release a delicate bouquet of white flowers and citrus.
